Entrepreneurs And Reverse Bank Of Love

We finished an energizing "Startup Service" retreat, with 40 friends from around India.  About 20 people shared a startup intention, we collectively whittled it down to 8 ideas, and split into teams for 3 days. On the last day, we presented to a "celebrity" panel.  Here's is Goli's retreat recap: Tapping Into the Power of Small

Two lessons stand out to me.

One -- it's amazing how much can be done simply by being in the company of encouraging people.  Each project leader would have 3-4 volunteers who sign-up on their team, and for the next couple days, they are implicitly saying, "Great idea, you can do it, we are with you."  Just that alone can take you SO far.

Second -- money seems like a bottleneck, but it's actually something else.  Rupali is an incredible artist who does wall-sized painting; she wanted to do "HeArt Circles" (where people "draw the change they wish to be in the world"), but wasn't sure how to sustain it financially.  One member of her group generously tells her, "I'll cover all your costs for the year.  Just start."  She was SO thrilled and was buzzing around with energy.  Two days later, she tells that friend, "You know what?  I realized that it's not that much money and I can just cover the costs myself.  I don't know why I kept thinking money was a block -- actually it was a mental block, and just being here has liberated me from it."

At the end of the retreat, each presenter had a pot (to resemble an alms bowl of sorts) and everyone in the room had these currency notes (pictured above) -- on which they wrote their offerings in multiple forms of capital.  Go Meghna, for designing such brilliant stuff non-stop!
