Proof of Journey

Jun 23, 2005

I remember coming home to Madurai two years ago after long months of travelling. MaduraiPondicherryMadrasManhattan PhiladelphiaBlacksburgChicagoAnnArborSanFrancisco LosAngelesAlbuquerqueLondonBrightonMadras...Madurai.

Unpacking my bags I found a small blue ticket for a trainride I'd taken somewhere along the way (London maybe?). On the back in printed lettering this curt command:

Retain as Proof of Journey.

Looking out my window at the small Om Shakti temple by the side of the street, behind it the familiar cluster of coconut palms, in front the slope of unpaved road I know so well...and this small blue ticket in my hand. An unintentional been-there-done-that souvenier from a different world.
(only not really)

Retain as Proof of Journey.

Which made me laugh. Because sometimes it can all seem that dreamlike.
(and in the end the journey's proof is only in the living.)
